Steve Smith Trial Lawyers is a growing trial firm with decades of combined experience in family law, civil litigation, criminal defense and probate. What You’ll Do
You’ll be a trusted partner to our attorneys and a reassuring presence for our clients from intake through final judgment.
• Manage family law matters at every stage, including divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, child and spousal support, and post-judgment modifications
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, financial statements and settlement agreements
• Organize financial disclosures and prepare timelines, summaries and trial exhibits
• Prepare for hearings, mediations and trials, including assembling evidence and witness materials
• Keep clients informed and supported with clear, compassionate communication
• Coordinate with courts and opposing counsel, manage filings, and keep calendars and deadlines on track
• Conduct legal research and track billable time accurately
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, financial statements and settlement agreements

What You Bring
• 3–5 years of paralegal or high-level legal assistant experience, with significant family law experience
• Familiarity with Maine court rules and procedures, especially in family matters
• Strong drafting, writing and research skills
• The ability to juggle multiple cases without letting details slip
• Empathy and professionalism with clients in stressful situations, and strict respect for confidentiality
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Clio experience is a plus
• An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies or a related field (preferred)
• Familiarity with Maine court rules and procedures, especially in family matters

Compensation: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
